The European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) has criticized Meta’s latest model, called ‘consent or pay,’ which forces Facebook and Instagram users to choose between paying a monthly subscription to avoid ads or using the platform for free by giving up their data. BEUC believes that this model continues to violate European regulations, specifically the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (UCPD).
